2011 Missile Stakes – Final Field & Barrier Draw

August 3rd, 2011

The final field and barrier draw for the Group 3 Missile Stakes that will take place at Randwick Racecourse this Saturday August 6, 2011, have been released.

14 nominations for the $125,000 Missile Stakes 2011 have been whittled down to just 10 starters after the final field was released today.

Horse racing odds for the race will be available at Luxbet shortly.

The Missile Stakes 2011 will be run over a distance of 1,200 metres and under standard weight-for-age conditions.

The most notable absence from the 2011 Missile Stakes final field is Pressday, who was hoping to make a comeback in the race after an unsuccessful autumn campaign.

Trainer Chris Waller was obviously unhappy with the four-year-old’s track work performance yesterday.

“Pressday’s fitness is almost where I need it to be and if he works well (this morning) he will definitely race on Saturday,” Waller said earlier in the week.

“If he has a good blow after the gallop then we might wait for the following week.”

Waller may now run Pressday at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse on August 13, 2011.

“We only gave Pressday three starts in the autumn because I just wasn’t happy where he was mentally,” Waller said.

“He’s a much better horse than what he was showing.

“We were just going nowhere, so we backed off and pulled up stumps early.

“He seems to have come back really well, although he is a hard horse to get a line on.”

Despite the absence of Pressday, Waller will still be represented by Triple Elegance in the Missile Stakes 2011.

“Triple Elegance usually races well fresh and he made massive progress last autumn,” Waller said.

“I wouldn’t be game enough to say he has improved but he certainly hasn’t gone backwards.”

Triple Elegance has drawn barrier eight for the 2011 Missile Stakes and will be ridden by jockey Damien Oliver.

Joseph Pride’s Rain Affair has drawn barrier six for the race and will be ridden by jockey Corey Brown.

The talented Commands gelding will be looking to win his sixth straight race when he contests Saturday’s 2011 Missile Stakes.

Also included in the final field for the 2011 Missile Stakes are David Payne’s Centennial Park, Peter Snowden’s Pinwheel and Gai Waterhouse’s Squamosa.
