A talented field of sprinters has been confirmed for Saturday’s Group 2 Missile Stakes (1200m) at Randwick; offering punter exceptional value from a betting standpoint and several key opportunities to place a winning wager.
Team Hawkes-trained runner Messene ($3.30) has maintained status as outright favourite in 2015 Missile Stakes betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au ahead of Temple Of Boom ($4.60) and French import Weary ($5).
Will Messene justify favouritism and win the 2015 Missile Stakes or will one of his talented rivals find the line in the clear?
Weary is a proven performer over course, distance and first-up and is more than worth consideration for a Missile Stakes bet at current $5 odds for success. Posting four wins and a further eight minors through 22 career starts so far, the Astronomer Royal gelding returned to racing this year for success in the Group 2 Expressway Stakes (1200m) and progressing to a credible third in the Group 2 Apollo Stakes (1400m) a fortnight later. Last seen running a close second in the Group 1 Doomben Cup (2000m), Weary will need some luck from the outside draw but should perform well with Glyn Schofield aboard.
Burbero has returned to racing in great form this time, will likely settle in good position from barrier 6 and offers great value for money at current $8 odds for success or $2.55 to finish in the first three. A strong and consistent performer for Bjorn Baker in recent seasons, the O’reilly gelding was given little chance of success in the July Sprint (1100m) first-up a fortnight ago but produced an impressive turn of foot to finish a close second to Brook Road. Burbero is yet to have a jockey confirmed but is in the right form for success in the 2015 Missile Stakes.
Temple Of Boom ($4.60)
Popular veteran Temple Of Boom has already received huge support in 2015 Missile Stakes betting markets, cutting in to current $4.60 odds from an opening quote of $5. The winner of the 2012 edition of the Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m), Temple Of Boom returned this year for a credible sixth in the Group 2 Victory Stakes (1200m) on April 25th, and while unable to figure in his next two starts, responded well in placing fourth in the major Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1350m) last time out on June 6th.
