Jumping from the gates well, apprentice hoop Rory Hutchings settled the son of O’reilly within the classy field of nine; allowing the race’s early leaders to set a fair tempo away from the barriers and approaching the bend.

Working through the field and finding a clear racing line upon reaching the final straight, Burbero locked in a fierce sprint battle with French import Weary and popular veteran Temple Of Boom; bobbing a head clear over the line to post an impressive second-up success.

Trainer Bjorn Baker was understandably thrilled with Burbero’s performance for success in the 2015 Missile Stakes and was quick to praise the efforts of the horse and Hutchings; a late replacement for regular rider Brodie Loy.

“If there is one horse who is special in the stable, it’s Burbero,” Baker said after the race.

“And to get a good track was perfect. It’s what he needs.

“It’s a great start to the season and we have to look at the Epsom now.

“A lot of the credit goes to Brodie and I feel for him because he has done so much work with him.

“He is the sort of horse that has to be held up to make just one run and Rory did the job perfectly.

“And it was a big effort for Zaratone to run fourth.”

The 2015 Missile Stakes undoubtedly figures as a career-highlighted for young apprentice Hutchings so far and was pleased with his performance aboard the horse for maiden Group 2 success.

“It’s great to get a big win like this,” Hutchings said.

“I didn’t expect it so quickly. I waited as long as I could on the horse and when I pushed the button he took the gaps.”

In taking out the 2015 Missile Stakes, Burbero has now posted an impressive career record of 13 wins and ten minors through 39 competitive starts.
