Early 2016 Missile Stakes Odds Update

August 2nd, 2016

Only seven runners were included in 2016 Missile Stakes nominations on Monday, and the race subsequently offers punters plenty of value in early betting markets for Saturday’s Group 2 feature race at Royal Randwick.

Three-year-old Capitalist is poised for a big Spring Carnival campaign, and remains a clear odds-on favourite in 2016 Missile Stakes betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au prior to Wednesday’s barrier draw.

Capitalist immediately stamped himself as a colt to follow upon debuting to racing for a comfortable win in the Listed Breeders’ Plate (1000m) last spring, and only continued to impress in taking out each of the Wyong Magic Millions 2.y.o Classic (1100m) and Gold Coast Magic Millions 2.y.o Guineas (1200m) in his next two starts.

Clearly requiring a run when resuming in autumn for second in the Group 2 Todman Stakes (1200m), the Written Tycoon colt delivered a talented field a comfortable defeat in the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) last time out on March 19th.

Capitalist has trialled particularly well in the lead-up to the Missile Stakes and will be treated well in the weights as a three-year-old.

Rebel Dane is a proven first-up performer and represents terrific value for money at early 2016 Missile Stakes odds of $4.20.

A Group 1 winner having taken out the 2013 edition of the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m), Rebel Dane returned to racing this year for third in the talent-rich Group 2 Australia Stakes (1200m) before placing a credible fifth in the Group 1 CF Orr Stakes (1400m).

Progressing to fourth in the Group 1 Futurity Stakes (1400m), the California Dane entire failed to fire in either of the Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m) or Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes (1200m), but returned to the paddock after running fourth in the Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m).

Tommy Berry will take the ride on Rebel Dane in the Missile Stakes, who should prove extremely tough to beat on Saturday.

The Rod Northam-trained Big Money ($6) currently figures as sole occupant of the third line of Missile Stakes betting, while consistent Godolphin sprinter Generalife ($8) interestingly figures as the only other runner currently available at a quote of less-than $10.

Posting nine wins and a further ten minors through thirty-six career starts, the Lonhro gelding is another runner that relishes first-up racing and is more than worth consideration for a bet at current Missile Stakes odds.

The 2016 Missile Stakes field and barrier draw is due to be completed and released by midday, Wednesday.
